Listening to the promises the ANC is making ahead of next year's election, I cannot help but conclude that poor people, especially Africans, will always be taken for a ride, not only in South Africa, but on the entire continent.
Jacob Zuma has been outlining the priorities of what he believes is his imminent presidency. On fighting crime, he has proposed street committees, a better resourced police service (even to the point of buying police new boots instead of what he calls training shoes and changing their titles from superintendent to something more militant), education and a number of other things.
