Will a Ford ever run Ford again? Probably not, says conventional wisdom. Since Alan Mulally replaced Bill Ford as CEO in 2006, the thinking is that we've seen the last CEO named Ford for the foreseeable future.

That's what they used to say about Toyota that no member of the founding Toyoda family ever would run the show again. But last month Akio Toyoda, 52, grandson of Toyota founder Kiichiro Toyoda, got the top job the first Toyoda to lead the Japanese automaker since his uncle Tatsuro stepped down in 1995.
