Fed: Costello confident of independent report into Telstra
Treasurer PETER COSTELLO says he's confident high profile farmer DICK ESTENS will conductan independent inquiry into telecommunications in the bush.
The cotton farmer from Moree has reportedly been chosen to head a second rural telcoinquiry, expected to be announced by Communications Minister RICHARD ALSTON today.
The inquiry is expected to clear the way for the government's sale of the remaining50.1 per cent of Telstra.
Mr COSTELLO's told Channel Seven Mr ESTENS is somebody who's a very respected Australianbusinessman and can be trusted to do an independent report and that's what the governmentwants.
The Treasurer says now is the time for a second inquiry to see how services have improvedin the bush and to assess whether or not they've reached the benchmarks.
