TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 3, 1996--WebVision Inc. has released the second generation of its market tested interactive order-management system, WEBtropolis ORDERnet 2.0.
Using the tools of ORDERnet, a business of any size can create a "virtual store" at a new or existing Web site. ORDERnet users can swiftly adjust prices, display color images of their inventory, provide pre-sales information and accept payment safely.
Despite the rich potential of electronic commerce, most businesses are hampered by limited choices in how to establish commercial space on the Internet, according to John McGloughlin, WebVision's executive vice president of Technical Services. "In general, it's either choose plug-and-play products with no features, or deal with someone whose `products' that turn out to be high-priced contract services rather than turnkey solutions." The solutions available to date have required that a business choose from a small set of standard formats that may or may not match their business model.
In contrast, for about the price of a single workstation, an ORDERnet user can create templates that can be customized with a wealth of features and options to match their customers' needs. This flexibility is possible largely because ORDERnet uses WebVision's WEBtropics PAGEscriptor, a scripting tool for HTML. PAGEscriptor is a server-based communications framework that offers advanced session and transaction control through an easy-to-use interface. Developers of ORDERnet pages can call sub-applications within HTML, rather than program conventionally in C or another language.
