AUSTRALIA'S TELSTRA AXES OVER 100 CALL CENTRE JOBS IN VICTORIA
MELBOURNE - More than 100 Telstra (ASX:TLS) call centre workers in the eastern part of Australia's Victoria state have been told their jobs will be axed, with some going to the Philippines.
Telstra will close its Moe call centre on April 13, meaning its 114 workers will have to look for new jobs.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 57.4 crore in the same quarter previous fiscal year.

NEW DELHI - India's Reliance Communications (BSE:532712) yesterday posted a decline of 54.84 per cent at Rs 525.99 crore (US$116 million) in its net profit for the quarter ended December 31.
The company's revenue were down by 7.9 per cent at Rs 4,864.98 crore in Q3 from Rs 5,283.57 crore posted in the same period in the previous fiscal year.
TATA TELCOS MOVE COURT AGAINST ORDER ON SPECTRUM CHARGES
NEW DELHI - Tata group firms Tata Tele Services and Tata Tele Services Maharastra (BSE:532371) yesterday challenged the hike in spectrum usage charge in the Indian Supreme Court.
The two companies challenged the order of the industry tribunal Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), which has declined to stay Department of Telecom (DoT)'s hike in the spectrum charge.

NEW DELHI - India's Tata Teleservices (TTSL, BSE:532371) yesterday said it is unfair and incorrect to compare the company with dual technology operators like Reliance Communications (RCom, BSE:532712) and others as they had applied and got the approval even before the policy came into effect.
TTSL's statement came in response to RCom's claim that it had to wait since February 2006 for more than 18 months to get the dual technology (GSM and CDMA) licence.

NEW DELHI - India's telecoms tribunal TDSAT yesterday directed Uninor to pay Rs 3.8 crore (US$837,748) to the government as penalty for delay in rolling out services in Mumbai circle, as per its license conditions.
Passing an interim order, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) directed Uninor to pay Rs 3.8 crore, 60 per cent of the penalty imposed by the Department of Telecom (DoT), in Mumbai circle.
INDIA'S TIMES INTERNET TIES UP WITH RCOM FOR WORLD CUP CONTENT
NEW DELHI - Indian internet and mobile services provider Times Internet said it has tied up with Reliance Communication (BSE:532712) to provide content related to the upcoming ICC World Cup to other telecom users.
"We will distribute mobile content related to the World Cup, including SMS, voice and video alerts, live audio commentary and others to a large number of people using services of operators other than Reliance Communication," Times Internet Director (Telecom) Ajay Vaishnavi said.

BEIJING - The number of China's mobile phone users topped 859 million by the end of 2010, and the penetration rate was 64.4 per cent. In Shanghai, the cell phone penetration rate reached 122.9 per cent, ranking the country's first place.
Beijing and Guangzhou respectively took up the second and third places, with the penetration rates reaching 121.4 per cent and 99.9 per cent.

CHINA'S MOBILE PHONE GAME MARKET FALLS 4.9% IN DECEMBER QTR
BEIJING - The size of China's mobile phone game market slid 4.9 per cent quarter on quarter in October-December 2010 to 877 million yuan (US$132.99 million), due mainly to a change in policy by Chinese telecom operators, according to the market research firm Analysys International.
The market believes that Chinese carriers' policy of sending text messages asking for confirmation from mobile phone game players directly impacted revenues from standalone games.
INDIA'S SUJANA TOWERS NET RISES OVER 2-FOLD TO US$2.98 MLN IN Q3
MUMBAI - Indian power transmission and telecom tower maker Sujana Towers (BSE:532887) said its net profit grew more than two-fold to Rs 13.58 crore (US$2.98 million) in the third quarter ended December 31, 2010.
The company had a net profit of Rs 5.62 crore in the same quarter last fiscal year, Sujana Towers said in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange.
